The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the premier central recruiting agencies in India. It is responsible for conducting various examinations to select candidates for appointments to the civil services of the Indian government. The UPSC is a constitutional body established under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution.

The primary function of the UPSC is to conduct examinations for the recruitment of candidates to the All India Services (IAS, IPS, and IFS) and Central Services (such as Indian Revenue Service, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Indian Foreign Service, etc.). These examinations are highly competitive and are conducted on a national level.

Some of the prominent examinations conducted by the UPSC include:

1. Civil Services Examination (CSE): Commonly known as the UPSC exam or the IAS exam, it is considered one of the toughest examinations in India. It is conducted in three stages - Preliminary examination (objective type), Main examination (descriptive type), and Personality Test (interview).

2. Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE): This examination is conducted to select candidates for admission into the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers' Training Academy.

3. National Defense Academy Examination (NDA): It is conducted for admission into the National Defense Academy and Naval Academy. The examination is open to candidates who have completed their 10+2 education.

4. Engineering Services Examination (ESE): This examination is conducted to select candidates for various engineering services in the government of India.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body in India that is responsible for conducting various examinations and recruitment processes for appointments to the All India Services and Central Civil Services. It was established on 1st October 1926 and functions under the provisions of Article 315 to 323 of the Constitution of India.

The UPSC conducts several examinations, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which is considered one of the most prestigious competitive exams in India. The CSE is conducted to recruit candidates for positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other central civil services.

In addition to the Civil Services Examination, the UPSC conducts various other examinations such as the Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE), National Defense Academy Examination (NDA), Indian Forest Service Examination (IFSE), Engineering Services Examination (ESE), Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE), and many more.

The UPSC also advises the President of India on matters related to the appointment, transfer, promotion, and disciplinary matters of civil servants. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the merit-based and unbiased recruitment process for various government positions in India.

The commission consists of a chairman and other members who are appointed by the President of India. The members of the UPSC hold office for a term of six years or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. The chairman and members of the UPSC are independent and are not eligible for further employment in the government after their tenure.
